In Response to Sisters Uncut
The activist group Sisters Uncut who protest against cuts to domestic violence services took up residency in Cheltenham library, in Bristol. It had been bought by a private company who had the intention of building luxury flats. Their plan did not include any Social Housing. My interest was around the impact no Social Housing would have on Women. Sisters Uncut were drawing attention to the lack of safe houses for women fleeing domestic violence.
This piece is a direct response to the demolition of the library. The bricks are painted in the style of relevant books to the subject. I wanted to highlight the importance of public spaces and safe places for women. Learning about this is so important.
